My Story of Service
Inducted in 1942, age 27, at Ft Leavenworth. Landed on Omaha Beach Sept 15, 1944 with the 379th Infantry Regiment, 95th Division, Patton's 3rd Army. The troops were in contact with the enemy over 100 days in a row and suffered enormous casualties fighting to liberate the fortress city of Metz, before clearing Germany’s Ruhr Pocket. Brown was awarded a battlefield commission to 2nd Lieutenant, later promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Received Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Cluster, and other citations.
